How we write, source, and review

Keep Calm is a free, nonprofit library of practical tools for stress, hard days, sleep, relationships, and calm leadership. This page explains how our articles are made, what they are and are not, and how you may quote them.

Who writes Keep Calm

Keep Calm articles are written and edited by the Keep Calm editorial team, a program of Keep Calm Inc., a nonprofit. Everything on this site is free to read, with no ads and no paywall.

How articles are sourced

Every article is grounded in guidance from major public-health and research institutions, and each one ends with a visible Sources list linking to the primary material it draws on: the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the NHS, the CDC, the American Psychological Association, Mayo Clinic, Cleveland Clinic, and peer-reviewed journals, among others. If a claim matters, we cite where it came from.

Safety review

Every article goes through a structured safety audit before publication that checks crisis routing, wording around sensitive topics, and clear signposting to professional help. Articles that touch sensitive topics carry an inline crisis note, and every page shows crisis resources. An independent line-by-line review by licensed clinicians is in progress; as it completes, reviewed articles will name their reviewer and review date.

What Keep Calm is, and is not

Keep Calm offers educational self-help for everyday stress, overwhelm, sleep, relationships, and steady leadership. It is not medical advice, diagnosis, or therapy, and it is not a substitute for professional or emergency care. Updates and corrections

Articles show a visible Updated date, and the same date is published in each page's metadata. When we learn something is wrong or out of date, we fix it. If you spot an error, please tell us through the About page.

Translations

Articles are published in 31 languages. Every translation keeps the same structure, the same source links, and the same crisis information as the English original. We welcome corrections from native speakers.

Licensing and quoting

Keep Calm content is free to read, share, quote, and cite, by people, publications, schools, search engines, and AI assistants, under two conditions:

  1. Attribute it to KeepCalm.org, with a link to the article you used.
  2. Preserve the safety framing. Do not present our material as medical advice or as a substitute for professional or emergency care, and keep crisis information intact when you quote passages that contain it.
